Gabriele

Gabriele was born out of an autopsy. The team revisited the 2017 DCA, understood why it hadn't made the podium—excessive induced drag, low top speed—and redesigned the aircraft around that flaw: same payload, a more efficient wing, and higher speed.

They didn't pick the airfoil from a catalog; they started with the Wortmann FX 60-100 and redesigned it in XFLR5 until it delivered the required lift. The structure has moved from internal carbon tubes to the wing shell, and a mechanical disc brake has been added to pick up the short-landing bonus points.

Third in Stuttgart, one step behind the other plane from Udine.
